College Sports Scholarships

In this section, LHS students will be given access to information regarding NCAA, NAIA, and NJCAA athletic opportunities.  Each organization is very different and we recommend asking your coach and your school which level they feel you would be able to compete.  For a short overview of each level in one place click the link below to see an article on the College Sports Scholarships website.  We are not supporting or sponsoring this website in any way but thought this article may be helpful.  If student-athletes or parents at LHS have any questions please contact our Athletic Director, Mr. Bruce Henderson at 301-475-0200.

College Preparatory Schools

The website STACK.com shares that "A post-grad prep school, simply put, provides another year of secondary school before moving on to college. It is considered the fifth year of high school. Athletes do not lose their college playing eligibility as they do by playing at the junior college level."  These schools are typically boarding schools (the fifth-year student lives on their campus) and can be quite expensive.  The reasons high school athletes choose a Preparatory School are:

  1. Academic reasons GPA and/or SAT/ACT do not meet the minimum requirements for acceptance to the college or university of choice.
  2. I did not receive a scholarship.
  3. An injury.
  4. Played a different position in high school to help the team win than the position they best translate to in college.
